WoW Classic Class Guides

Nine classes, and in Classic the differences between them are sharper than in any version since. Each guide below says what the class actually does in a raid, which races can roll it, and how its talent points are spent — with an interactive talent calculator for every one.

FAQ

  • How many classes are there in WoW Classic?

Nine: Warrior, Paladin, Hunter, Rogue, Priest, Shaman, Mage, Warlock and Druid. Two of them are restricted by faction — Paladin is Alliance only and Shaman is Horde only — so each side has eight to choose from.

  • Which class is easiest to level in Classic?

Hunter and Warlock, because both have a pet that takes the damage instead of you and both stop to rest the least. Paladin is the hardest to actually die on but kills slowly. Warrior is the fastest at level 60 and the slowest on the way there — it depends entirely on the weapon you are holding.

  • Can I change my talents in Classic?

Yes, but it costs gold and the cost rises every time. Your first respec is 1 gold, and each one after that goes up to a cap of 50 gold, dropping back down slowly if you leave it alone. That is why Classic players plan a build before spending points rather than experimenting in-game.

  • Does my race matter in WoW Classic?

More than in the modern game. Racials are not cosmetic: Undead get Will of the Forsaken, Dwarves get Stoneform and Fear Ward on priests, Orcs get a stun resistance that matters in PvP, and Tauren get extra health. Race also decides which classes you can roll at all.
