WoW Classic Mage Guide
The most damage in the game, food and water for the raid, and a portal home.

Mages do the most damage in Classic raids, and they do it from range where most boss mechanics cannot reach. Frost while levelling, Fire once the raid gear arrives — that progression is close to universal, and both are strong.
What makes a mage more than a damage number is everything around it. Every player in the raid eats and drinks mage food, which is the difference between a raid that stops to buy water and one that does not. Portals move the raid across the continent. Polymorph removes an extra mob from a pull entirely, and no other crowd control in vanilla is as reliable.
Cloth and no escape from melee is the whole downside: a mage that is being hit is a mage that is about to die, and Blink and Frost Nova exist because of it.
Talent trees
A Mage spends 51 talent points by level 60 across three trees. Open any of them in the calculator, build what you want, and share the link.
Where to train a Mage in Classic
Every mage trainer in Classic, by zone. Coordinates come from the 1.12 game data, not from a present-day map: Cataclysm redrew several of these zones, and a modern percentage points at ground the Classic map does not contain.

Which races can play a Mage?
- AllianceHuman, Gnome

Race is not cosmetic in Classic — racials like Will of the Forsaken, Stoneform and Fear Ward change how the class plays, particularly in PvP.
Strengths and weaknesses
What it is good at
- Highest raid damage in Classic
- Food, water and portals for everyone
- Polymorph, the most reliable crowd control in vanilla
What it struggles with
- Dies immediately in melee range
- Mana-hungry — you will drink constantly
- No healing and no pet to hide behind
