It stays out of the way
It cannot read your messages
The bot has no gateway connection — Discord posts each slash command to an endpoint, and that is the only thing it ever receives. No Message Content intent, no permission to read history. There is no version of this where it sees your channel.
Answers are private by default
Looking something up shows it to you and nobody else. Putting an answer in the channel is a second, deliberate click — so one person checking their reagent list never pushes a conversation off the screen.
It asks for no permissions
The invite grants one scope: the right to add slash commands. Not to post, not to manage anything, not to join as a member. The permission integer is zero.
The coordinates are Classic, not current
Trainer positions come from the 1.12 world database, converted through the Classic client's own map bounds. It matters: Cataclysm split Stranglethorn and the Barrens, so a present-day percentage points at ground the Classic map does not contain.

What does the WoW Guides Discord bot do?
It answers WoW Classic Era profession and item questions inside Discord. Ask it what a recipe takes, what a reagent is used in, or how to level a profession from 1 to 300 — it replies with the steps, the total material list, and where every trainer stands.
How do I add the bot to my server?
Click "Add to Discord" on this page and pick a server from the list. You need the Manage Server permission on that server. The bot asks for no permissions of its own — it only registers slash commands.
Can the bot read my messages?
No. It runs on Discord's HTTP interactions endpoint rather than a gateway connection, which means it never receives ordinary channel messages — only the slash commands people deliberately send it. It has no Message Content intent and no permission to read history.
Will it spam my channel?
No. Every answer is ephemeral by default — visible only to the person who ran the command. Sharing an answer with the channel takes a deliberate second click on the "Post to channel" button.
Are the trainer coordinates accurate for Classic Era?
Yes. They come from the 1.12 world database and were converted through the Classic client's own map bounds, not copied from a modern wiki. That matters in zones Cataclysm redrew — a present-day coordinate for Stranglethorn or the Barrens is measured against a different map than the one Classic Era uses.
Do I need an account to use it?
No. Item lookups and profession guides work for anyone. Linking a wow-guides.com account only adds /me, which reports the profession knowledge you have built up in the site's quiz games.
