WoW Classic Recipe Quiz
See the ingredients. Name the craft.
What is the WoW Classic Recipe Quiz?
Every WoW Classic crafter learns recipes the same way: you read the ingredient list once, craft the item a hundred times, and eventually the two become the same thought. The Recipe Quiz compresses that. It shows you a recipe stripped of its name — just the ingredient icons and the quantity of each — and asks you to name what those materials produce.
Every question is generated from our own WoW Classic items database, currently 1095 recipes built from 404 distinct ingredients. Quantities are the real ones: if a craft needs two Crystal Vials, the quiz shows two. Nothing is approximated and nothing is invented.
Which recipes you will be asked about
The quiz pulls from whatever recipes exist in the database, so its coverage grows as the database does. Today that means the Alchemy line — potions, elixirs, flasks and transmutes — plus the First Aid bandages.
| Profession | Recipes in the pool | Share of questions | What it covers |
|---|---|---|---|
| Blacksmithing | 240 | 22% | Craftable items recorded for this profession |
| Leatherworking | 232 | 21% | Craftable items recorded for this profession |
| Tailoring | 227 | 21% | Craftable items recorded for this profession |
| Engineering | 164 | 15% | Craftable items recorded for this profession |
| Alchemy | 106 | 10% | Healing and mana potions, stat elixirs, raid flasks, transmutes |
| Cooking | 82 | 7% | Craftable items recorded for this profession |
| Enchanting | 19 | 2% | Craftable items recorded for this profession |
| First Aid | 13 | 1% | The full bandage line, from Linen to Heavy Runecloth |
| Mining | 12 | 1% | Craftable items recorded for this profession |
| Total | 1095 | 100% | 404 distinct ingredients across all recipes |
How a question is built
- The recipe is chosen by what you do not know. Recipes already marked as known on your profile enter the pool at a sixth of the weight of ones you have not mastered, so rounds drift toward your gaps instead of rewarding what you already have.
- Ingredients are shown with real quantities. The database stores each ingredient once per unit required, and the quiz collapses that into an icon with a count — exactly how the recipe reads in game.
- Wrong answers come from the same profession. An Alchemy recipe is never padded out with a bandage. You cannot narrow the field by category; you have to know which materials make which item.
- Answers include the item icon. Each option shows the finished item's icon alongside its name, so the quiz trains recipe reading and icon recognition together.
Two numbers: quiz score vs. real profession skill
Signing in with Google starts two separate counters on your profile page, and they measure different things. The first is XP: +1 per correct answer, plus a +10 bonus for a clean 10-question round. It is a score to watch climb — nothing more.
The number that means something is your profession skill tier. It is computed from how many distinct recipes and items you have actually mastered in that profession, measured against how many exist in it. A profession with a hundred entries needs proportionally more mastered recipes to reach Master than a small one, so the tier always means the same thing: real coverage.
| Skill tier | Share of that profession mastered |
|---|---|
| Novice | 0% – 17% |
| Apprentice | 17% – 33% |
| Journeyman | 33% – 50% |
| Expert | 50% – 67% |
| Artisan | 67% – 83% |
| Master | 83% – 100% |
How a recipe becomes a known recipe
Answer the same recipe correctly three times in a row and it is marked as known. The streak carries across sessions, so it does not have to happen in one sitting. Once a recipe is known it is filed under its profession on your profile, your skill tier recalculates immediately, and the recipe starts appearing far less often in future rounds.
Your profile lists known items and known recipes separately, so you can tell at a glance whether you know your raw materials, your crafts, or both. Profiles are public and shareable at a URL you choose.
Recipe Quiz or Icon Quiz?
The two games train different halves of the same knowledge and feed the same profession skill, so progress in one is never wasted on the other.
| Recipe Quiz | Icon Quiz | |
|---|---|---|
| You are shown | A recipe's ingredient icons and quantities | A single item icon |
| You answer | What the recipe crafts | What the item is called |
| Trains | Reading recipes and material knowledge | Icon recognition and item naming |
| Pool size | 1095 recipes | Every item in the database |
| Wrong answers drawn from | The same profession | The same item family, then profession |
| Modes | 10-question round | Round or Endless |
| XP & known tracking | Identical rules | Identical rules |
Getting better at it
The fastest gains come from the reagents that appear everywhere. Learn what Crystal Vial, Empty Vial and Leaded Vial pair with and a large slice of the Alchemy pool stops being guesswork, because the vial tells you the tier and the herb tells you the effect. Once the common herbs are second nature, the recipes that share a base — the Healing Potion line, the Elixir families — separate on quantity alone.
If a recipe keeps catching you out, open its page in the items database: every recipe lists its exact ingredients and links through to each material, so you can trace a flask back to the herbs you would need to farm. Then come back and take the same recipe three times in a row to bank it. The Icon Quiz is the natural companion — it drills the individual materials that these recipes are built from. Both are listed on the knowledge games hub.
FAQ
What is the WoW Classic Recipe Quiz?
The Recipe Quiz is a free browser game that shows you a crafting recipe from WoW Classic — its ingredient icons and the exact quantity of each — and asks you to name the item those materials produce. Every recipe is pulled from our own WoW Classic items database, so the ingredient lists match the real in-game recipes rather than approximations.
Which professions does the Recipe Quiz cover?
Right now the Recipe Quiz draws on the recipes in our items database, which covers Alchemy and First Aid. Alchemy makes up the large majority — potions, elixirs, flasks and transmutes — while First Aid contributes the bandage line. As more professions are added to the database, their recipes are picked up by the quiz automatically.
How are the wrong answers chosen?
Wrong answers come from the same profession as the correct one, so an Alchemy recipe offers other Alchemy craftables rather than an obviously unrelated item. That means you cannot eliminate options by category alone — you have to actually recognise which ingredients produce which item.
Do I need an account to play?
No. Anyone can play the Recipe Quiz without signing in. Signing in with Google adds progress tracking: correct answers earn profession XP, and recipes you answer correctly three times in a row are marked as known on your public profile.
How does a recipe become a known recipe?
Answer the same recipe correctly three times in a row — across any number of sessions, not necessarily in one sitting — and it is marked as known. Known recipes then appear far less often in future rounds, so your practice time shifts toward the recipes you have not mastered yet.
Does the Recipe Quiz share progress with the Icon Quiz?
Yes. Both games write to the same profession skill data, and your profile lists known items and known recipes separately. Mastering a recipe here raises the same profession skill tier that the Icon Quiz contributes to.
