WoW Classic Warlock Guide

Summons the raid, healthstones for everyone, and damage over time that never stops.

A warlock trades health for mana and back again, which means the class almost never has to stop. Life Tap converts one into the other, a Voidwalker takes hits instead of you, and Drain Life tops you up between pulls — vanilla warlocks level slowly but relentlessly, without downtime.

In a raid the warlock is the logistics. Summoning stones move the last three people who are still riding across Kalimdor, healthstones go in everyone's bag, and soulstones save a wipe by resurrecting a healer mid-fight. Damage is solid and mostly Shadow, applied and left to tick.

Demonology, Affliction and Destruction all have a place, and most Classic warlocks build across them rather than committing to one — the pet from one tree, the curses from another, the direct damage from the third.

Talent trees

A Warlock spends 51 talent points by level 60 across three trees. Open any of them in the calculator, build what you want, and share the link.

Where to train a Warlock in Classic

Every warlock trainer in Classic, by zone. Coordinates come from the 1.12 game data, not from a present-day map: Cataclysm redrew several of these zones, and a modern percentage points at ground the Classic map does not contain.

Which races can play a Warlock?

  • AllianceHuman, Gnome
  • HordeOrc, Undead

Race is not cosmetic in Classic — racials like Will of the Forsaken, Stoneform and Fear Ward change how the class plays, particularly in PvP.

Strengths and weaknesses

What it is good at

  • Summons, healthstones and soulstones the raid depends on
  • Almost no downtime while levelling
  • A pet for every situation

What it struggles with

  • Kills slowly — everything is damage over time
  • Cloth, and Life Tap means you are often at low health
  • Shadow resistance on later bosses hurts
