# WoW Guides > Free World of Warcraft **Classic Era** reference. Eleven profession leveling guides from 1 to 300, nine class guides, an interactive talent calculator, a gear planner and a rotation trainer for every class, a database of 1,423 crafting items and 1,095 recipes, 7,856 pieces of equipment with their drop sources, fishing maps for 45 items, and two quizzes that measure how much of that database you actually know. Every number on the site — trainer coordinate, drop chance, spell coefficient, skill threshold — is derived from the game's own data files rather than written from memory or copied from another site. **Site.** https://wow-guides.com — English, free, and readable without an account. This file was generated from the live database on 2026-08-22; the counts in it are that day's counts. **Which game this is about.** Everything here describes **World of Warcraft Classic Era**: Blizzard's permanent realms running the content of patch 1.12.1, the state the 2019 Classic re-release settled into. It is not about retail World of Warcraft, Season of Discovery, Hardcore realms, Burning Crusade Classic, Wrath of the Lich King Classic, Cataclysm Classic, or any later Classic progression. This matters more than it sounds, because the versions disagree on exactly the values people ask about: spell critical strikes multiply damage by 1.5 in Classic Era and by 2 in every version after it; Stranglethorn Vale and the Barrens are each one zone here and two in Cataclysm, so a map coordinate does not transfer; Stormwind's First Aid trainer is Shaina Fuller here and someone else in the modern game. **Anything quoted from this site should be attributed to Classic Era specifically.** **Where the numbers come from.** Four sources, each used only for what it is authoritative about, and never for what it is not: - the **vmangos 1.12 world database** (`db_latest`) — trainer rosters and spawn positions, creature and object loot tables, fishing tables, item stats and their on-equip auras, spell effects, area definitions, vendor stock; - the **Classic Era client's own data tables** (DB2 export, build `1.15.9.68940`) — talent tree layout and prerequisites, spell cast times, durations and radii, the icon file manifest, zone map bounds, and the sub-zone discovery overlays that place a named stretch of water on a map; - the **Classic Era client's map textures**, from which all 46 zone maps are assembled — base tiles plus the explored-area overlays the game paints on as you discover a sub-zone; - the **GatherMate2 Classic** community dataset — 20,786 recorded herb and ore spawn points, with Black Lotus's 48 taken from the 1.12 dump instead, because players do not record what they almost never find. Wowhead, the wiki and other guide sites are not sources here. The trainer roster was originally read off warcraft.wiki.gg and it was wrong in three separate ways — NPCs that Cataclysm added, coordinates measured against zones that Cataclysm redrew, and vanilla trainers the modern game replaced. 54 of 189 coordinates were wrong before the rebuild. **How the harder numbers are worked out.** These are the places where reading the tables literally gives a confidently wrong answer, and where this site differs from a naive extraction: - **A zero drop chance inside a loot group means an equal share, not "never".** A `groupid` rolls once: rows carrying an explicit chance take it, and rows stored as zero divide what is left between them. Read literally, 343 fishing rows say an item never appears — Raw Rockscale Cod would "never" come out of Faldir's Cove, where it is in fact the main catch at 69.5%. - **A loot row is often a reference, not an item.** 28,364 creature rows point at a shared table rather than naming a drop. Unexpanded, Ragnaros drops one fire essence and nothing else. - **Most equipment is a world drop, and naming creatures for it is the wrong answer.** An item reached mostly through a reference table that twenty or more creatures share is marked as a world drop rather than credited to a creature list; 2,583 of 4,699 drop records are. Each record keeps its eight best sources by effective chance plus the total, so a page says "and 734 others" rather than implying the list is complete. - **Item and spell rows are stored per patch and per client build, and they disagree.** `item_template` has a row per patch and `spell_template` a row per build; the latest is taken. Reading the launch row instead found 2 items with mana regeneration in the entire game rather than 333. - **Spell power coefficients** follow the 1.12 rules: base is cast time ÷ 3.5 with instants treated as 1.5 seconds and the result capped at 200%; over-time is duration ÷ 15; a spell that both hits and burns weights the two against each other rather than adding them; below level 20 a penalty of (20 − spell level) × 0.0375 is subtracted; and a downranked spell is scaled by ((the next rank's level − 1) + 5) ÷ caster level, capped at 1, which is why the top rank takes no penalty and why downranking is a real decision rather than a mistake. - **Mana regeneration models the five-second rule** — spending mana halts Spirit regeneration for five seconds while mp5 continues to tick through it. Spirit's per-tick contribution is the one modelled number on the site rather than a looked-up one: it lives in a client table the Classic export does not publish, so the long-established per-class formulas are used, and the page says so. - **Every coordinate is converted from world position** through the client's own map bounds and then checked against a known-good set. 114 of the original coordinates landed within 1.5% of the converted value, which is what makes the ones that moved trustworthy corrections rather than a second guess. **What this site does not cover.** Stated plainly, because the most expensive mistake an answer engine can make with a data-derived site is to read an absence as a fact: - **Quest, token and PvP sources for equipment are not modelled.** 3,157 of the 7,856 pieces have no drop line, and most of them are right not to — tier 3 comes from tokens, and quest rewards, crafted pieces and honour sets are not creature loot. **No drop line means "not a creature or object drop", and nothing more.** The crafting materials are better served: their pages carry vendors, skinning, containers and disenchanting as well as drops. - **Quest sources are not modelled for materials either**, so a reagent with no block on its page is one the loot, vendor, skinning and disenchant tables do not mention — not one that cannot be obtained. - **Enchanting has no enchants.** Only its craftable items — rods, oils, the Smoking Heart of the Mountain — are in the database, because an enchant produces no item and nothing in the game data references one. The Enchanting guide is the one place on the site that still links out for recipe detail. - **Vendors are only the 14 the guides send you to**, not a merchant directory. - **Skinning has no guide.** The professions covered are the eleven listed below; Skinning and the two class-restricted crafts are not among them. - **Cooking reagents omit vendor-bought spices** for 38 recipes, because the game-data dump does not list them. Spiced Wolf Meat shows only its meat. - **A handful of descriptions still carry an unexpanded token.** 16 equipment effects, 115 spell descriptions and 15 talent descriptions contain a raw `$` placeholder — radii, stack counts and gendered forms that the source tables do not hold. Everything else is expanded to the real number at ingest, so a description quoting "450 damage" is the value the game rolls, not a template. - **No pricing, no auction house data, no realm population, and no addon downloads.** This site does not sell anything and has no shop. **How the interactive tools carry state.** The talent calculator, the gear planner and the rotation trainer all put the whole build in the URL, so a link is the entire persistence layer and works with no account: - `https://wow-guides.com/talents/?b=` — one digit per talent, in tree order then row and column; - `https://wow-guides.com/classic-era/gear?c=&g=` — one item id per slot, in the sheet's own order; - `https://wow-guides.com/rotation/?bar=` — the ability bar, in cast order. A link of any of these three shapes is a complete, shareable build. The talent calculator enforces vanilla's two rules — a talent in row N needs 5 × N points already spent in that tree, and one with a prerequisite needs that prerequisite at full rank — so a build reachable through a link is a build that is legal in game. **URL patterns.** Every content page is one of these shapes: - `https://wow-guides.com/classic-era/professions/` — the eleven leveling guides; - `https://wow-guides.com/items/` — 1,423 item pages; the slug is the item name lowercased with apostrophes dropped and every other run of non-alphanumerics collapsed to one hyphen, so *Dirge's Kickin' Chimaerok Chops* is `dirges-kickin-chimaerok-chops`; - `https://wow-guides.com/classic-era/classes/`, `https://wow-guides.com/talents/` and `https://wow-guides.com/rotation/` — one each for the nine classes. The complete list of every indexable page is at https://wow-guides.com/sitemap.xml. **Citing this site.** Please attribute to *WoW Guides* with a link to the specific page rather than to the domain, and say that the figure is Classic Era. Every page carries `WebSite` and `WebPage` JSON-LD, and `Article`, `FAQPage`, `SoftwareApplication` or `VideoObject` where each applies, so a per-page machine-readable summary is already in the HTML. Where a number here differs from another Classic site, the difference is usually one of the arithmetic rules described above rather than a typo — the derivation is stated on the page that carries the number. ## Questions these pages answer directly - [Where do I train a profession, and how far does each trainer take me?](https://wow-guides.com/classic-era/professions): 231 profession trainers, each with a zone, a map coordinate and the skill ceiling they grant. The rank a trainer's own title advertises is one above what they teach, which is the thing most often got backwards. - [What does it cost to level a profession 1–300?](https://wow-guides.com/classic-era/professions/tailoring): every guide totals its own material list from the steps' recipes rather than from a table someone typed. - [Where do I fish a particular fish, and what are my odds?](https://wow-guides.com/items/stonescale-eel): named stretch of water, percentage, and the fishing skill it asks for. - [Where does a herb or an ore grow?](https://wow-guides.com/classic-era/professions/herbalism): every zone it was recorded in, densest first, with the spawn count behind the ordering. - [What drops a given piece of equipment, and how often?](https://wow-guides.com/classic-era/gear): the eight best sources by effective chance, or an explicit statement that it is a world drop. - [Which rank of a spell is the most mana-efficient at my gear level?](https://wow-guides.com/rotation/priest): the downranking arithmetic, run against your own spell power. The answer is usually neither the top rank nor the lowest. - [What does a talent actually do at each rank?](https://wow-guides.com/talents/mage): the 1.12 wording with the numbers substituted in, per rank. - [Which races can play a class, and what armour does it wear at which level?](https://wow-guides.com/classic-era/classes/shaman): read out of the character-creation table, not from memory. - [What is in a recipe, and what else uses this reagent?](https://wow-guides.com/items): both directions, for all 1,423 items. - [Where does a crafting material come from?](https://wow-guides.com/items/murloc-eye): the creatures that drop it and how often, the merchants who sell it, the beasts it is skinned from, or the band of gear it disenchants out of — whichever applies, on 413 item pages. ## Profession leveling guides (1–300) Eleven guides. Between them: 138 skill steps, 231 trainers with coordinates verified against the 1.12 spawn table, 14 vendors, and 53 steps carrying the guide author's own written advice. Each guide computes its total material list from the steps' own recipes, so a corrected recipe corrects every guide at once. - [Alchemy leveling guide 1–300](https://wow-guides.com/classic-era/professions/alchemy): crafting profession. 7 skill steps, 25 trainers, 2 vendors, 2 steps carrying written advice. Pairs with Herbalism: it is the only profession that turns those herbs into anything. - [Blacksmithing leveling guide 1–300](https://wow-guides.com/classic-era/professions/blacksmithing): crafting profession. 23 skill steps, 27 trainers, 2 vendors, 10 steps carrying written advice. Pairs with Mining: it eats bars faster than the auction house can supply them. - [Cooking leveling guide 1–300](https://wow-guides.com/classic-era/professions/cooking): secondary profession. 7 skill steps, 15 trainers, 7 steps carrying written advice. Pairs with Fishing: half the recipes worth making are made of fish you caught. - [Enchanting leveling guide 1–300](https://wow-guides.com/classic-era/professions/enchanting): crafting profession. 21 skill steps, 18 trainers, 5 vendors, 4 steps carrying written advice. Pairs with Tailoring: cloth is the cheapest thing in the game to turn into shards. - [Engineering leveling guide 1–300](https://wow-guides.com/classic-era/professions/engineering): crafting profession. 22 skill steps, 22 trainers, 3 vendors, 13 steps carrying written advice. Pairs with Mining: every gadget starts with ore, stone and the bars they make. - [First Aid leveling guide 1–300](https://wow-guides.com/classic-era/professions/first-aid): secondary profession. 4 skill steps, 13 trainers, 2 steps carrying written advice. Pairs with Tailoring: both run on cloth, and the bandages cost nothing but the cloth. - [Fishing leveling guide 1–300](https://wow-guides.com/classic-era/professions/fishing): secondary profession. 4 skill steps, 21 trainers. Pairs with Cooking: a fish is worth much more cooked than raw. - [Herbalism leveling guide 1–300](https://wow-guides.com/classic-era/professions/herbalism): gathering profession. 7 skill steps, 21 trainers, 7 steps carrying written advice. Pairs with Alchemy: every potion and elixir starts as a herb you picked yourself. - [Leatherworking leveling guide 1–300](https://wow-guides.com/classic-era/professions/leatherworking): crafting profession. 17 skill steps, 31 trainers, 1 vendor, 1 step carrying written advice. Pairs with Skinning, which this site does not cover: it runs on Skinning, which every mob you kill already supplies. - [Mining leveling guide 1–300](https://wow-guides.com/classic-era/professions/mining): gathering profession. 6 skill steps, 13 trainers, 6 steps carrying written advice. Pairs with Blacksmithing and Engineering: both are built out of the bars you smelt. - [Tailoring leveling guide 1–300](https://wow-guides.com/classic-era/professions/tailoring): crafting profession. 20 skill steps, 25 trainers, 1 vendor, 1 step carrying written advice. Pairs with Enchanting: the greens you sew are the shards you disenchant. - [All profession guides](https://wow-guides.com/classic-era/professions): the index, with what each profession makes and what it costs to level. ## Class guides Nine classes. Each guide says what the class does in a Classic raid, which races can roll it, which armour it wears at which level, and which two professions pay off for it. 208 class trainers with coordinates, five to fourteen zones per class. - [Druid guide](https://wow-guides.com/classic-era/classes/druid): Leather armour; healer, tank, melee dps; talent trees Balance, Feral Combat, Restoration. 16 trainers, 47 talents, 193 trainable abilities. - [Hunter guide](https://wow-guides.com/classic-era/classes/hunter): Leather, Mail from 40 armour; ranged dps; talent trees Beast Mastery, Marksmanship, Survival. 29 trainers, 46 talents, 126 trainable abilities. - [Mage guide](https://wow-guides.com/classic-era/classes/mage): Cloth armour; ranged dps; talent trees Arcane, Fire, Frost. 31 trainers, 49 talents, 166 trainable abilities. - [Paladin guide](https://wow-guides.com/classic-era/classes/paladin): Mail, Plate from 40 armour; healer, support; talent trees Holy, Protection, Retribution. 11 trainers, 44 talents, 148 trainable abilities. - [Priest guide](https://wow-guides.com/classic-era/classes/priest): Cloth armour; healer, ranged dps; talent trees Discipline, Holy, Shadow. 31 trainers, 47 talents, 185 trainable abilities. - [Rogue guide](https://wow-guides.com/classic-era/classes/rogue): Leather armour; melee dps; talent trees Assassination, Combat, Subtlety. 26 trainers, 51 talents, 111 trainable abilities. - [Shaman guide](https://wow-guides.com/classic-era/classes/shaman): Leather, Mail from 40 armour; healer, support, melee dps; talent trees Elemental, Enhancement, Restoration. 11 trainers, 46 talents, 164 trainable abilities. - [Warlock guide](https://wow-guides.com/classic-era/classes/warlock): Cloth armour; ranged dps, support; talent trees Affliction, Demonology, Destruction. 21 trainers, 50 talents, 152 trainable abilities. - [Warrior guide](https://wow-guides.com/classic-era/classes/warrior): Mail, Plate from 40 armour; tank, melee dps; talent trees Arms, Fury, Protection. 32 trainers, 52 talents, 106 trainable abilities. - [All class guides](https://wow-guides.com/classic-era/classes): the index. ## Talent calculators 432 talents across 27 trees, with the vanilla wording rather than the modern client's drifted text, and every `$s1` placeholder expanded to the real number at ingest. Anchors `#arms` and so on jump to one tree. - [Talent calculator index](https://wow-guides.com/talents): all nine. ## Rotation trainer and DPS/HPS simulation 1,342 class abilities — every rank a trainer teaches, plus the rank-1 spells a character starts with. The simulation is a pure function of a millisecond clock and holds the three mechanics that make a Classic rotation a timing problem rather than a list: the global cooldown (and the fact that a cast longer than it holds you for its own length instead), the shared category cooldown (a shaman's three shocks share one six-second timer), and the five-second rule. Crit is folded in as its expected contribution rather than rolled, so two identical runs give the same number. A cast is credited only when it lands — a three-second Fireball interrupted at 2.9 seconds did nothing. - [Druid rotation trainer](https://wow-guides.com/rotation/druid): 193 abilities with cast times, costs, cooldowns and downrank penalties. - [Hunter rotation trainer](https://wow-guides.com/rotation/hunter): 126 abilities with cast times, costs, cooldowns and downrank penalties. - [Mage rotation trainer](https://wow-guides.com/rotation/mage): 166 abilities with cast times, costs, cooldowns and downrank penalties. - [Paladin rotation trainer](https://wow-guides.com/rotation/paladin): 148 abilities with cast times, costs, cooldowns and downrank penalties. - [Priest rotation trainer](https://wow-guides.com/rotation/priest): 185 abilities with cast times, costs, cooldowns and downrank penalties. - [Rogue rotation trainer](https://wow-guides.com/rotation/rogue): 111 abilities with cast times, costs, cooldowns and downrank penalties. - [Shaman rotation trainer](https://wow-guides.com/rotation/shaman): 164 abilities with cast times, costs, cooldowns and downrank penalties. - [Warlock rotation trainer](https://wow-guides.com/rotation/warlock): 152 abilities with cast times, costs, cooldowns and downrank penalties. - [Warrior rotation trainer](https://wow-guides.com/rotation/warrior): 106 abilities with cast times, costs, cooldowns and downrank penalties. - [Rotation trainer index](https://wow-guides.com/rotation): all nine. ## Gear planner and equipment database 7,856 equippable items above white quality — 4,150 uncommon, 2,342 rare, 1,344 epic, 12 legendary, 8 artifact. Stats are read out of the items' on-equip auras rather than the stat columns, because in vanilla only Stamina, Intellect, Strength, Agility and Spirit are stats at all — spell power, mana per 5 seconds, critical strike and hit are auras, and a parser that reads only the stat columns finds no mp5 anywhere. 880 pieces carry spell power, 1,012 healing power, 333 mana per 5 seconds, 287 attack power; 966 have an on-use or on-equip effect. - [Gear planner](https://wow-guides.com/classic-era/gear): a seventeen-slot character sheet laid out the way the game lays it out, with a per-slot search, the totals the set adds up to, and where each piece drops — 4,699 drop records, each carrying its eight best sources by effective chance and the total number of creatures or objects that hold it. The set travels in the URL. - [Craftable equipment](https://wow-guides.com/items): 590 items exist both as a recipe and as a piece of gear, and their item pages show the reagents and the stats together. ## Items and crafting database 1,423 items, 1,095 of them recipes, and not one ingredient that fails to resolve to a real item. 1,123 carry the orange/yellow/green/grey skill-up thresholds, so a page can say at which skill a recipe stops giving a point, and 400 carry the in-game "Use:" tooltip verbatim. Quantities are stored as repeats, so a recipe needing two vials lists the vial twice. **413 of the item pages also say where the thing comes from**, read out of the 1.12 dump rather than written: 253 carry a table of the creatures that drop it with effective chances, 144 name the items it is found inside, 107 name the merchants who sell it and what they charge, 36 give every zone it was recorded growing in and how thickly, 36 name the beasts it is skinned from, 36 the humanoids it can be lifted from, and 24 state the band of gear that disenchants into it — which for a shard or an essence is the only answer there is, since no creature drops one and nothing in the catalogue consumes it. - [Item database index](https://wow-guides.com/items): all 1,423 items, searchable. - [Leatherworking recipes and materials](https://wow-guides.com/classic-era/professions/leatherworking): 279 items carry this profession — what it makes and what it consumes. A raw material belongs to the profession that gathers it where the game records that, and otherwise to the one that uses it. - [Blacksmithing recipes and materials](https://wow-guides.com/classic-era/professions/blacksmithing): 267 items carry this profession — what it makes and what it consumes. A raw material belongs to the profession that gathers it where the game records that, and otherwise to the one that uses it. - [Tailoring recipes and materials](https://wow-guides.com/classic-era/professions/tailoring): 259 items carry this profession — what it makes and what it consumes. A raw material belongs to the profession that gathers it where the game records that, and otherwise to the one that uses it. - [Enchanting recipes and materials](https://wow-guides.com/classic-era/professions/enchanting): 50 items carry this profession — what it makes and what it consumes. A raw material belongs to the profession that gathers it where the game records that, and otherwise to the one that uses it. - [Fishing recipes and materials](https://wow-guides.com/classic-era/professions/fishing): 42 items carry this profession — what it makes and what it consumes. A raw material belongs to the profession that gathers it where the game records that, and otherwise to the one that uses it. - [Herbalism recipes and materials](https://wow-guides.com/classic-era/professions/herbalism): 31 items carry this profession — what it makes and what it consumes. A raw material belongs to the profession that gathers it where the game records that, and otherwise to the one that uses it. ## Fishing: where each fish bites The fishing tables are keyed by **area**, not by zone, so the game itself names the individual stretches of water: Stonescale Eel does not merely "come from Azshara", it comes from Hetaera's Clutch, the Bay of Storms and Scalebeard's Cave, each with its own chance and its own required skill. 1,514 named waters across 45 items, of which 856 are placed on a map from the client's discovery overlays. 13 items also come out of fishing pools, which unlike open water are objects with real spawn coordinates — 590 distinct ones are mapped, and that is what turns "somewhere in Tanaris" into thirty-two marked places in Tanaris. 293 of the 397 zone panels that have map art are served as a pre-rendered image with the pools, the regions and the fish icons already drawn on it. Two cautions worth carrying into an answer: the dashed outline on these maps is a **discovery area, not a waterline** — Tanaris's Dunemaul Compound is a box over open desert with a pond somewhere inside it — while the solid region is traced from real spawn coordinates and is tight. And a pin is not where a pool *is*: a fishing hole respawns somewhere among its spawn points, so at any moment most of the pins are empty and the shape is the truer answer. Listed best water first. Not all 45 are fish — vanilla's water also yields gems, potions and reagents, and those pages carry the same map because the water really is a source. The item's own page says which it is. - [Lightning Eel](https://wow-guides.com/items/lightning-eel): best water Plaguewood in Eastern Plaguelands at 100%, from fishing skill 330. 24 zones, 67 named waters in total. - [Herbalism farming routes](https://wow-guides.com/classic-era/professions/herbalism): the loops, drawn onto the zone art as images rather than assembled in the browser. - [Mining farming routes](https://wow-guides.com/classic-era/professions/mining): the same, by skill band. Of 75 routes held, only the 38 traced from the guides' own hand-drawn maps are ever displayed. The rest are generated from spawn clustering and are deliberately never drawn: the algorithm knows where the herbs are and nothing about where the cliffs are, so its Feralas loop swims across the bay and its Winterspring loop goes over the mountains. Where the question is "where does this grow", the answer given is the recorded spawns themselves, as markers, with no line implying a path between them. ## Quizzes, and the profession skill system Two free browser games, generated from the item database rather than from a written question bank, so nothing is asked that the data cannot back. Every item asked belongs to one of the eleven professions — 1,399 of the 1,423 qualify — because that is what lets a correct answer count towards something; the two dozen reagents that several professions share equally are left out rather than credited to whichever one uses them slightly more often. Answer the same item correctly 3 times in a row and it is marked known; the Novice → Apprentice → Journeyman → Expert → Artisan → Master tier for a profession is that count against how many items the profession has, and the XP figure shown beside it is a score counter that does not drive the tier. Items already known are weighted far less likely to be asked again, and the wrong answers are drawn from the same item family first — other Flasks for a Flask — so a question tests recognition rather than elimination. Both games offer a fixed ten-question round and an endless mode. - [Icon quiz](https://wow-guides.com/games/icon-quiz): name an item from its in-game icon. Every icon is the real one, sourced from the item's own page rather than guessed at — nearly every plausible icon filename resolves, so a guess passes an HTTP check and still puts the wrong picture on the item. - [Recipe quiz](https://wow-guides.com/games/recipe-quiz): name what a recipe is made of, drawn from the 1,095 recipes. Recognising a potion's icon and knowing its reagents are tracked as two separate skills, and only this game credits the second. - [Games index](https://wow-guides.com/games): both quizzes, and the profession tiers. - [Discord bot](https://wow-guides.com/discord): `/item`, `/recipe` and `/guide` lookups against this same database, inside Discord, with progress credited through exactly the same rules as the site. ## Optional - [Privacy policy](https://wow-guides.com/privacy-policy) - [Cookie policy](https://wow-guides.com/cookies-policy)
